Hey teem! Gonna be a quick one today, as I have other deadlines I have to finish and I’ve learned that this takes up so much more of my time than I anticipated!
But that’s ok, we’re playing fast and loose! This is what you need in your life today!
Daily Album:
TRON LEGACY- Daft Punk
While the movie itself is very visually impressive but ultimately a bit bland for my personal taste, this is quite possibly the best film score of all time. Daft Punk, those kooky french robots, boy oh boy they just don’t know how to quit do they! Just all time incredible work from the them, swelling electronica from ear to ear. I dare you not listen to Jeff Bridges’ speech in the above video and not get hyped out of your little baby brain.
This album is wall to wall genius that just infuses me with such life. I love it to pieces.
Daily Art:
I ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING- @hachiyahachi1 on Twitter
Three days in and I’ve already run out of classical art to throw at this thing, so here is a Japanese artist I follow on Twitter whose speciality are these incredible detailed, very cute, and very moist little frogs who just love to carry stuff around.
This one is particularly juicy to me, simply because of how happy this lil guy is to have tomatoes. A luxury! A delicacy! We love an entrepreneur. These slap.
Follow them on Twitter! Maybe buy some art! Live your truth dudes.
Daily Song:
LES FLEURS- Minnie Riperton
This is another favourite thing of all time, a masterpiece of storytelling and song that I discovered while watching Us for the second time. (Like a fool, I didn’t pick up how brilliant it was cause I was too distracted by how brilliant the flick was) ((SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE US IN THE ABOVE CLIP BTW))
As I’ve learned, it’s also incredibly good at bookending a D&D session on a big cliffhanger. Has real FINALE energy about it. It’s such good hippie pop.
Daily Movie:
SING STREET- dir. John Carney
Damn, I keep accidentally giving themes to these things. Today’s theme, I guess, is shit I have loved for years and years and now want to love for years and years too.
Sing Street is a movie about a Catholic schoolboy in 80’s Ireland who sees a hot girl on the street one day and is all like “Hey, what’s up” and she’s like “um, no thanks…” and he’s like “no, no, no. You got it all wrong. I’m in a band. Do you wanna be in our video?” and she’s like “um, I’ll think about it.” The kid then returns to his mates and is all like “guys we need to start a band.” Musical shenanigans ensue.
This is a movie about love and how it has the ability to pull you out of the dirt and change your life. Romantic love, brotherly love, familial love, platonic love. It’s a beautiful story and I love it to bits and so should you!

Daily Panel:
HOP DUDE - Hat / Debug / Success - Dave Mercier
Ok, some context.
Hop Dude was an Instagram comic strip by Dave Mercier that ran from 2017 to 2019. It was a Mario parody comic where the punchline for every single strip was the titular “Hop Dude” saying the line- Mama Mia. Very silly. Very funny. We like.
Then around 2018, as new parody characters and OC’s were introduced and the lore got expansive, the comic got more and more existential. It feels like it always had a destiny to do so, when the very first strip was a joke about how Hop Dude can’t die.
The stakes got higher and higher and eventually God (like the literal god of the world) sent a Waluigi parody named Hubris after Hop Dude. Hubris’s original characetr trait was that he wanted his hat back, a hat that Hop Dude was wearing. Then, as Hop Dude foiled more of Gods plans, Hubris became unhinged, wanting to become a god himself.
Things got more and more kooky, with Hop Dude and his friends going on a whole mission quest to find God and force him to give them free will, to make them real, to make them not mere playthings to God. And then Hubris shows up again. Forgotten, and broken. A puppet that’s been discarded.
And instead of cast out his former enemy, one who tried to kill Hop Dude and his family, he instead shows a tender moment of mercy and humanity.
It’s a silly Mario comic, but it’s moments like these that make me love the medium (and why I spent way too much backing the physical book on kickstarter)
Daily Pic Off My Phone:
Here’s a pic that I saved to my phone at one point that brought me joy.
My brother has a category of actor that he likes to describe as Men That Constantly Shit Their Pants. It exclusively belongs to the big boys of the action genre.
This includes Sly Stallone, Vin Diesel & our subject today, Dave Bautista, who we’re seeing here trying to look sexy on his Instagram and failing. He instead looks constipated and high. Fun highlights of this image are his septum piercing, his all-seeing eye tattoo, his scrunched neck, his paler than normal skin, and a look in his eyes that suggests he’s about to start crying. Incredible work Dave.
Daily FREE SPACE:
I bought things on the internet and they arrived today!
My Basketcase (yesterdays movie of the day) DVD arrived, looking like an old school VHS, very cool. As well as two actual old school VHS’s I bought off Trade Me! Glen Or Glenda is famously bad film maker Ed Wood’s cross dressing drama from the 50’s, a film I’ve never seen, only heard stories about. Pump Up The Volume is an excellent teen drama film that I saw at a secret screening about Christian Slater as a pirate radio DJ. This was the only way I could buy it! It doesn’t exist anywhere else! Literally! Not on streaming at all, on any of the providers. Amazon is the only place that provides it, selling second hand region A dvd’s for ridiculous prices. One guy was trying to sell a blu ray on trade me for a hundred bucks! I told him that was ridiculous and offered him $25. He called my opinions herpes and blocked me! I can never buy from that guy again! What a dick!
Daily Good Vibe:
Tui’s have been flocking the trees near my house lately. A 2 minute walk down Allendale road towards Mt Albert Road and you’ll spot at least a half dozen. Look at these guys. What a bird.
Sorry this one’s so frantic today teem. I hope you’re all doing well. Spend friday doing something you love, like baking or kissing a friend or both if you’re feeling dexterious.
